About LSZF 2019

The third Lone Star Zine fest was held on September 1, 2019, and was super fun! We tried out a new model – the crawl – and had 6 venues (4 bars and 2 galleries) 29 exhibitors (4 zine libraries, and 3 small presses), 2 poster artists, 11 volunteers, 5 fabulous door prizes, and around 400 attendees!

Attendees said their favorite things about the 2019 Fest were:

  • “Getting the chance to see so many unique and talented artists and talk to them about their passions.”
  • “I liked that I could get a drink at King Bee, and I liked the variety of exhibitors as well as the zine creation space.”
  • “Seeing the creativity and community it inspired me to make my own zines.”
  • “The alcohol-free drinks at Sans Bar and learning about zines and that the libraries carry them.”
  • “I loved being able to meet local vendors in person and my favorite part was the LIBRARY venue! The Austin and UT libraries had great representatives, and the zine made by the UT Libraries for the fest was so fun. I think it was amazing that the Sherwood Forest Zine Library was also there so I could get a library card.”
  • “I love everything about it, truly.”
  • “That it exists! Has a diverse set of vendors!”

Folks said the Fest made them feel:

  • “Happy to support local artists!”
  • “Excited to see so many different types of zines and creators!”
  • “It made me feel like I was home. Being mixed race and queer doesn’t give you a lot of safe places, but this one felt really special. I’m so happy that people are out here creating this art and spending their time to keep this community growing. I felt inspired and am now working on making a zine to contribute next year!”
